Volunteering at BTW
Individuals wishing to volunteer in the program must first complete a two-hour
minimum volunteer training program and additional training program and additional
training pertaining to the specific area of interest to the volunteer. Training
includes the following:
- Youth Development
- Confidentiality
- Orientation/Program Overview
- Personality Styles Discovery
Volunteer training will be offered on an as needed basis.
Volunteers will be recruited by agency staff through local volunteer organizations
and by individual staff members.
In order to volunteer at BTW, you must first fill out a volunteer registration
form. You can obtain one of these forms from the office. Once you have submitted
the form and it has been reviewed, the Administrative Assistant will make
an appointment with the Director of Programming for an intake interview. Only
after the Director of Programming has authorized you will you be assigned
a schedule.
- To volunteer one must be at least 15 years old and, if in high school,
maintaining a B average.
- Volunteers must read and sign BTW’s rules and regulations.
- Volunteers must remain in the areas to which they are assigned by staff.
- Volunteers must sign in when they arrive and sign out when they lead.
- Volunteers are not allowed to take children off of the premises.
- Volunteers are expected to exercise good judgement in language, dress,
and attitude while inside the center.
- If a volunteer experiences any trouble with a child, he or she must immediately
bring it to the attention of a paid staff member.
- All volunteers will serve a three-month probationary period during which
they are required to work under the direct supervision of a paid staff member
and not allowed to supervise children alone. Once a volunteer has successfully
completed this period, he or she wil be reviewed and renewed for up to one
year.
- Volunteers may be released if their behavior is judged inconsistent with
mission of the center.
This policy went into effect February 1,1999.
